Eunhui (Stella) Lee
My body of work represents an ongoing examination regarding the relationship of jewelry and human in the cycles of everyday life. Food has been my most recent focus and I have worked to combine it with jewellery as an indispensable factor of everyday life. Therefore, it is intended to be expressed as an art by marrying jewelry under the theme of food.
I explore the interaction between jewellery and the human body. The human body consists of cellular activity and gets energy from what we have eaten, over our entire lifetime. Jewellery has similar characteristics in that it cannot be completed except for the human body. In other words, the food that makes up the human body and the jewelry that is placed on the body already have invisible interactions. In addition to, food has ambivalent characteristics that are both the most traditional and universal. Therefore, I approach the subject of food from a cultural perspective, a point at which everything has become globalized.
I am an artist who believes that they have enormous power when old techniques and new technologies are harmonized. This belief comes from the Korean culture, which is my root, and I want to represent through art that I am firmly carring out it. So, I’ve learned new technologies espeically 3D printers and computer ade design. In terms of material, the most important thing I consider when choosing materials is whether they are suitable to wear. I have been mainly making jewellery out of silver that does not cause allergy to the skin. Recently, I began to improve wearability and lightweight by using resin and acrylic materials. Above all, I'm focusing on using the foods itself, which is my subject matter, as art materials.
