The mundane, everyday is overlooked and unappreciated even though it makes up the bulk of our lives. I created this body of work in order to bring a playful and whimsical element to the everyday and escape the banal associations we have with the things we experience so regularly. I like to use the everyday object as subject in my work because it is accessible by everyone and everyone has their own associations and memories tied to these objects. By wearing these colourful, cartoonish everyday objects on the body and presenting them as something precious like jewellery to be flaunted, the objects take on a playful, yet valuable quality and are stripped from their sociological layers and can therefore, be contemplated for what they are and take on new meaning. I like people to consider why they enjoy wearing such ordinary objects because it forces them to question their own relationships with them and it shines a light on the things that take up so much of our lives, but are so often ignored.
